The Stylus S21 is the new entry level printer from Epson the promises to be a cheap and cheerful general purpose printer that won’t let you down. Unfortunately the cost of Epson S21 ink cartridges is the first thing let you down. Most people who buy a printer at this price wouldn’t expect the printer ink cartridges to cost the same price as the price, but they do. Luckily there are compatible printer cartridges variable for the S21 and they cost a faction of what the genuine Epson inks do. The quality of print produced by the S21 is faultless, it sharp and clear whether your printing page of text or photograph provided you have it in the correct quality setting and this reveals another weakness of the S21 which is it speed. Inkjet printer are not known for their speed but the S21 is a real tortoise, Epson say it can print 25 pages per minutes but in the real world it more like 2.5 pages per minute. Photo printing is painfully slow with a 6×4 photo print taking a yawning five minutes. The S21 is a nice looking machine it dark grey casing and gloss black lid give it a very clean modern look, it feels well made and surprisingly solid for a budget printer. It compact too so shouldn’t take up much room. Overall the Epson Stylus S21 is an average printer that is suited to those do don’t print large volumes and just need a cheap printer to print things like emails and web printing etc, anything more and the S21 is not suitable.
