Within reach
One of the biggest investments we will make is buying a our own car. Cars don’t come cheap, in fact it is one of the most expensive pieces of machinery there is! However, cars have become a necessity. It provides us with comfort and convenience when traveling, and even lessens our travel time from one destination to the other, and also, driving our own cars we feel safer.
Since cars are very expensive, most average-wage employees cannot afford to buy it in one full payment, thus, what they tend to do, is apply for car loans. Once that their car loans have been approved, they are available to pay their cars in installment while already using it! However, car financing companies are very strict when it comes to car loans, who can blame them? Cars are very expensive, and they have to make sure their investment comes back to them. People with good credit scored have generally nothing to worry about, but I can’t say the same for those with bad credit scores. Fortunately, this is not a problem anymore, there are now online car loans that people with bad credit scores can apply for! Thus, getting that dream car of yours is now within reach!
Worth it!
When it comes to our vehicles, we all share the desire to improve and enhance its performance, and at the same time provide it with the protection it needs. Let’s face the fact that not only are we interested in achieving the maximum potential of our vehicles, but at the same time, we are also interested in maintaining its efficiency, to make sure every penny we spent is worth it!
The best thing that can improve and enhance our vehicles performance and efficiency and at the same time, protect it from all weather conditions and the usual wear and tear of constant use, is by installing car accessories. There are so many kinds of car accessories for different parts and to perform specific functions. If you are looking for an aggressive, throaty tone, with a great awesome horsepower while cruising with a smooth car mileage, improving your car exhaust system is definitely your first move! Although your exhaust pipe is located well below eye’s view, it performs a very important function of getting rid of unburned fuel that can damage your car’s engine parts! And with the best exhaust tips, finding the suitable exhaust system for your car will be easier and faster! Boost your car’s horsepower and fuel efficiency, and make every road trip, one of your best trips!
Accidents Can Happen
Accidents, specially car accidents, are very common occurrences. In 2004, it is estimated that 1.2 million people were killed by motor vehicle related accidents. This totals to 2.2% of all deaths. Also 50 million more were injured. Thus with the total world population of 6 Billion, this relates to almost 1% or 1 in every 100 of all people in the world. Consider that these occur more often in developed countries where cars are in greater use and this chance increases for people in the US. Note also that this do not cover accidents that do not cause injury only car or property damage.
People depend so much on the use of cars such that any down time causes disruption in their daily lives. Considering that rate of occurrence of car collisions, this down time is a very distinct possibility. Also, the cost of repair, not considering medical costs for injuries, can be devastating. Thus, any form of protection in the form of car insurance would be helpful. A cheap car insurance is always preferable than nothing.
Big Problem
What my friend experienced is one of the most common and bedevil- big problems faced by anyone who hunts and fishes out of a 4×4. If you replace the original wheels and tires with larger units, you also need to change the gears. When my blistered ears had cooled down, I got in touch with Jonathan Spiegel, co-proprietor of The Progress Group, a California- based company that specializes in light-truck custom performance. He had modified a Ford F250 pickup for me by replacing the original- equipment ring and pinion gears with high-performance components designed to stand up to heavy offroad use and to provide greater pulling power He seemed to be the perfect guy to help explain gears and gear ratios.
“Gear ratios greatly effect how well a truck performs in hunting and fishing situations. Even so, they are largely overlooked, probably because the gears are hidden in the rear differential housing;’ he told me.
“Well, all I know is that my modified F250 had much more pep in low-rpm high-torque situations, just what was needed to keep the vehicle moving in muddy offroad conditions;’ I said.
“I’ll try to make this as simple as possible,” Spiegel said. “Gear talk can get really complicated—all right, downright boring—which is why so many sportsmen just tune out when guys like me start talking.”
“Well, where do we start?” I ask. “The ring or pinion gears? The differential housing? Spider gears?”
“Forget that stuff,” Spiegel says. “You don’t need a technical seminar; you just need to know how gears, in general, affect overall performance. This is what most guys don’t grasp. It boils down to a basic understanding of what we call gear ratios.”
“And that is….”
“Put simply, gear ratio is a way of matching the power output to the tire size to the desired performance of the vehicle he says.
“You must be a trout fisherman;” I reply. “You make it sound sort of like matching the hatch. There you’re picking a fly pattern based on size, color, and silhouette.” Spiegel, who is a complete trout nut, smiled. “Something like that. Let’s look at your truck. It had the original täctory gear set in it—a 3.54 ratio. In non-technical language, a 3.54 means the driveshaft turns three-and-one-half times for every revolution of the tire. That’s a great gear ratio as far as overall driving and fuel economy are concerned, but from a power standpoint it doesn’t necessarily give you enough torque.”
One contributing factor to the problem is that many trucks now come out of the factory with so-called “high” gear ratios; in other words, gears that deliver fuel economy at the expense of power. Why the emphasis on fuel economy? Because truck manufacturers are under the gun to meet federal fuel economy standards. The problem Is that when you run a high gear ratio, the truck may not be able to pull itself out of a mudhole or a boat off a slippery ramp.
“You need to get some power back into that vehicle;” Spiegel tells Inc. “You can’t change the engine very easily; but you can change the gear ratio so more torque is applied at the rear wheels, If you lower the gear ratio—for example, go from a three-to-one gear ratio down to iburto-one gear ratio—you’ve automatically increased the torque available at the rear wheels by 25 percent. That’s a significant increase—enough to make the vehicle usable for the intended purpose.”
“So, in essence, a gear change can be considered a performance enhancement;’ I conclude.
“l)efinitely. Let’s go back to your truck. I knew you were interested in using it in offroad situations where you needed the vehicle w crawl at slow speeds with good powet So we changed the gear ratio to a 4.10—four revolutions of the driveshaft for every revolution of the tire.” “Well, that truck was a real monster in the mud,” I say. “The only problem was the increase in fuel consumption.”
“Yes. When you increase the number of revolutions that the engine turns per minute, you also increase total air and fuel flow. You get mote power by using more fuel. So, increasing the gear ratio will increase the fuel consumption. There are always trade-offs in life. You don’t get anything for free’
“I also noticed that when we got on the highway and moved up in speed, the truck seemed to hit a wall where it wouldn’t go any faster. Is that a factor of the gears?” I ask.
“It’s related to the design of the engine and the gear ratio. Engines perform on what we call a torque curve. As the engine rpm starts to increase, the torque output—the available power that comes out of the engine—continually increases until it reaches a maximum point that we call the torque peak.
“When you gear the vehicle to operate beyond the torque peak, the curve starts to fall off; you’re no longer in the engine’s most efficient operating ranger
In other words, for peak truck performance, the gears need to match the intended application.
Sometimes, It pays to think small
No good deed ever goes unpunished. That’s what I was thinking while a deer-hunting buddy was giving me a thorough tongue lashing one evening. I had recommended a new set of aggressive-tread offroad tires for his 4×4. He had acted on my advice, and then promptly sank his truck in thick mud while scouting a new hunting area.
“You know how much that tow operator charged me, pal? He put the hurt on me but good. And those new tires and wheels? They cost me a bundle—and the mud just ate ‘em alive!”
Wheels? I didn’t talk wheels with him.
“Did you buy wheels, too?” I asked.
“Had to.The old ones wouldn’t fit the new tires.”“Did you buy bigger tires?”
“Of course. I really wanted monster mud grabbers.”“How big?”
“Big!”
Now I knew the problem. “Did you change the gears as well?”
“What are you talking about?”
